My name is Amy and I am an advocate of the high carbohydrate low fat, raw till 4 vegan lifestyle. That I’m sure sounds like a mouthful so I will explain.
In April 2014 I woke up once again in agony and knowing exactly what was in store for me that day. I was tired from lack of sleep, dehydrated, bloated and in a lot of pain. This was not new to me, I had suffered and accepted that way of living since I was about 12 years old. I know this seems extreme but it’s surprising what you accept and deal with. I have lived with this constant source of pain and suffered from most illnesses going around. Tonsillitis, temperatures, flus, colds, debilitating migraines, IBS, UTI’s, horrendous PMS were all regular occurrences.
Each month I would wake up in the throes of an illness that would take my body about a week to fight and relieve some pain. Then for the next three weeks my body would attempt to rehabilitate it’s exhausted self. Recovery was always a slow affair as I would barely be able to hold anything down. After three weeks I would catch another illness and so the cycle was repeated, continuously. I sought doctors advice and would end up in the hospital on numerous occasions but nobody could figure out the source of my pain. I felt like I was wasting the Doctor’s time and always left with more questions than answers.
So on this regular April day I decided enough was enough. I was sick and tired and being sick! I put my foot down and decided no more illnesses. I always ate fairly well and didn’t indulge in high salt, high fat foods. I rarely ate meat or dairy. But I did consist on cereals, sandwiches, noodles, cheese, crisps, vegetables, fish. I assumed that I couldn’t eat more fruit and vegetables because I couldn’t afford it. This is where I discovered I was going gloriously wrong.
I began to research health extensively and found information on the vegan diet and the raw vegan diet. These appealed to me because I most certainly wouldn’t miss animal products from my diet as I wasn’t that fussed on them. I started drinking more water, drinking smoothies daily and exercising. Within the first two weeks I gave up dairy and meat entirely, and I felt the benefits immediately. My bloating and cramps had disappeared, as too had my insomnia and lethargy. I couldn’t believe it. The few small changes that I had implemented had positive effects on my body and my health. I feel re-energised, fulfilled and contented because I am no longer in pain and my energy levels are through the roof.
My priority is my health I couldn’t give a hoot about being skinny and this is where I think people are being misled. Once you reconfigure and attempt the process everything falls into place. I have lost weight and toned up by building muscle from daily exercise, something that is incorporated into my daily routine. It is certainly not something that I concentrated on but I must admit that for the first time in my life I feel strength and power in my body, It’s fantastic! I only wish that I had taken a step back a long time ago and re-addressed the way I eat, the way I exercise and relationship that I have with my body.
Since I began my healthy lifestyle I have been ill perhaps once or twice! 2 years and I will never look back. This is not about anybody else but yourself and you owe it to yourself to live a happier, healthier lifestyle. I can understand feeling overwhelmed and not having enough time to realise your full health potential. This is why I have created Ring the Merchant, it’s the place where information is broken down into bitesize pieces for you to peruse at your leisure.
Good luck and kindest regards,
